Rules & Regulations for Off–Leash Dog Parks in Peterborough
The following are a list of tenative and suggested rules for behaviour of the dogs and owners in the off–leash dog parks in Peterborough. This list is still subject to change and will be updated once the first off–leash park location is approved by Peterborough City Council.
- All dogs must be spayed or neutered
- Aggressive dogs must be removed from the park immediately
- All dogs must be under voice control
- Children under 14 must be supervised by a responsible adult
- Owners must carry a leash for their dogs in order to gain control if needed
- Dogs that bark excessively must leave the park
- Dog owners must pick up after their pets using their own bags or bags provided at the site
- All dogs must have all annual shots up to date (including rabies and bordatella) and valid dog license tags (no dogs under 6 months as they have not received all up to date shots)
- Female dogs in heat or dogs who are ill are not allowed in the park
- Glass containers, dog toys and food (animal or human) are not permitted within the park
- Prong or spike collars are not permitted on dogs in the park
- Limit of three (3) dogs per care provider
- Professional dog trainers or walkers may not use the park to conduct their business
- Dog owners are subject to the Ontario Dog Owners" Liability Act (DOLA). Neither the City of Peterborough nor PDOA is liable. Citizens who use the dog park do so at their own risk
